One of the Philippines' industrial crops is coconut. The product manufactured from coconut is the coconut oil. In copra production, there are two existing methods such as sun drying and tapahan (smoking). However, traditional methods of drying copra lead to poor oil production and product quality over time. With the advancing and changing world, these methods are not guaranteed to yield a high-graded quality of copra that also causes negative environmental impact of the huge emission of carbon dioxide.
This research has successfully proven the effectiveness of "Coven”, an automated solar powered portable copra drying device which attains the Grade 1 quality of copra and foster a pollution-free environment. The outcome of this study is beneficial to the copra farmers, community and environment. The time and temperature at which the copra will be dried were predetermined by the device’s automated feature. This will provide convenience to the user. The device’s buzzer will alarm once the copra is dried. Overall, the Coven is significantly efficient in copra drying, attaining the standard copra grade quality.
